Toma's "Magic" and Hughie's "Magic" is the 16th episode of the Waccha Primagi! anime. It aired in Japan on TV Tokyo on January 30, 2022.
Summary[]
Hughie suddenly arrives at Toma's home, where he is training hard to make candy. Hughie says, "I will grant your wish," and heads off to the magical realm in response to Toma's unconscious wish to see Matsuri. However, a suspicious witch who had been listening to what was going on took advantage of an opening Hughie had made to kidnap Toma. At the same time, at the training camp, the Phoenix detects the disturbance and informs Matsuri and the others of Toma's danger. They immediately head to the magic realm, and as they all search for Toma, Hughie and Myamu discover the witch's residence. Will they be able to rescue Toma safely!?
Synopsis[]
Fesrida chastises Hughie for his behavior as of late. The only reason why the training camp happened was because Omega just happened to approve of it. She reminds him that PriMagi is a means of collecting from the Earthly, so he shouldn't make any more rash decisions.
Meanwhile, the girls are trying to work out. Hina assists Matsuri, but Lemon is too weak to keep up with them, and Miruki doesn't want to do anything. But once the camera goes on her, she quickly displays her cute side. Myamu and Hughie are watching them from nearby, and Hughie brings up the performance she and Matsuri put on that secured them a spot for the exhibition. He asks her how they did it, but Myamu simply states she just did her part in doing her best. She is then called in to assist with the unconscious Lemon, leaving Hughie to think things over.
Toma is outside observing some girls discuss Matsuri when Hughie decides to sneak up on him. He makes a playful remark and Toma threatens to call the police, given that he's trespassed on him twice now, but Hughie manages to change the subject. He reminds Toma that he is a magic user, and offers to make him a wish because of the Magi he possesses. Toma is very confused when they are suddenly transported to the Magic Realm, but Hughie is delightfully surprised by the turn of events. Toma is convinced that he's dreaming, but Hughie was able to tell that he wants to see Matsuri, so he uses magic to disguise him and head towards the training grounds. Unknown to them, a witch is observing the duo.
The girls are at study hall when they realize Hughie isn't there. Amane points out that without him and the cameras, they can relax a little, and Hina uses this as a chance to rest. Something she normally does at her school. Meanwhile, Lemon and Matsuri are observing the Ensembles in a magazine, while Myamu angrily argues with Chimumu over her candy. Patano is saddened by the display, while Hanitan looks over the magazine with Amane after she picks it up. They begin to discuss the spirits, and the awakened Phoenix when Hina suddenly startles Miruki, talking in her sleep. The girls fail to notice her LookBook is glowing.
In town Toma is surprised by a large, strange bird and fears it may try to eat him. But he quickly comes around it when licks him and lets him pet it, leading Hughie to tease him again. He asks Toma is he believes him, but Toma is more confused over why Hughie would trust him with that knowledge. Just then, they hear some children at a nearby candy shop and Toma's interest shifts to it. The man working is pleased to hear Toma likes candy so much and offers to let him try making a Glitter Pop. He manages to produce a cute blue kitty and hands it to the little girl nearby as the maker of the candy wonders how he did it. Hughie mentions that its the effort of his hard work, but Toma insists that he likes to see how happy his candy makes people. He then recalls his earlier question, but Hughie admits that while he knows why he did it, he can't properly express his reasoning. He finds amusement when Toma bluntly asks him if he plans on eating him, but its short-lived when he sees a suspicious figure approaching them. He warns Toma to hide, and as suspecting, the figure was looking for a "suspicious hooded person". Hughie plays innocent and insists he hasn't seen anyone unusual, while Toma sees someone troubled in the alleyway he is hiding in.
The girls are chatting over Matsuri's broken shoelace when suddenly, they are overwhelmed by a large flame surrounding the sleeping Hina and the Phoenix spirit appearing. This instantly awakens Hina and she assumes something bad happened, and it summons a portal that reveals Toma has been kidnapped by a witch. He has been taken into the depths of a secluded forest, and Myamu wastes no time rushing through it after she recognizes the cloak he is wearing. The girls decide to head out as well.
Myamu confronts Hughie and demands an explanation as to why Toma is there. She remarks on how careless he was, and Hughie expresses remorse over not being more careful. On top of that they are dealing with a high level magic user, so they must quickly act. It begins to rain as they rush to the location of the witch.
Toma asks the witch if she really plans on devouring him. She explains that magic users need to consume the energy obtained from the Earthly in order to sustain themselves. They may sound friendly, but they are only after the waccha they produce; so they are mere tools. She notices Toma doesn't seem to believe her, and he expresses that he doesn't think they are all like that. Magic users can be awkward, and they have problems too, they aren't very different from the Earthly. Just then, Myamu and Hughie bust into the building and his shackles are magically removed. Hughie is concerned after noticing the red smear on Toma's face and he starts to glow, awakening his blue wolf spirit. He warns Myamu to get Toma to safety but the witch refuses to let them go just like that, summoning a large blast of magic in their direction. Hughie fights it off with his own magic and the witch asks why he would go to painful lengths like this to protect their prey. He admits to not knowing, and he doesn't know why he wants to help them either. But he feels so happy watching them perform, and he wants to know why that is. Toma is moved by his words and he steps in to lend him a hand in keeping them safe, and with the witch distracted Myamu changes into her cat form to knock her out.
The girls and Phoenix appear through the portal, where Matsuri rushes to Toma's side and begins to cry with relief. The others observe the witch, but to their surprise she turns out to be a relatively healthy young adult woman. It turns out that she is the water spirit, Undine. She basically did this as a means of testing the group to see if they were ready for her arrival. Toma goes on to ask Matsuri to put on a performance for her.
Undine asks Hughie if he learned anything from today's experience. He brings up that there were unexpected risks by taking things into his own hands, but doing nothing won't help either, which is why he wants to help the girls. Undine tells him that it isn't an easy task, but he claims not to care, because he loves PriMagi.
Everyone leaves Prism Stone and Toma gives them the candy he made earlier. But they leave to give him and Matsuri some space, where he reveals a winged cat candy he made, just for her. He asks her how training camp has been going, and after Matsuri responds with how his candy has been encouraging her, he promises to keep working hard too.
Back in the training hall, Matsuri happily admires the candy while Myamu wonders if things will be okay now. Hughie doesn't have friends so he'll probably get clingy, but Matsuri thinks this is good because now he can talk to someone. Just then, Hughie arrives with Undine to reveal that she is their new coach.
