Amari Katasumi (香田澄 あまり Katsumi Amari) is the main protagonist of the Idol Land PriPara series. She is a 9th grade high school student at Basilico Private Academy. Her catchphrase is "Even today is a troublesome one for Amari Katasumi", and her preferred brand is Hysteric Bunny.
Appearance[]
Amari has sharp magenta eyes and very thick, curled, somewhat messy looking teal hair with her bangs held by several clips. As an idol, her hair turns cyan with her bangs and forelocks remaining the same. The rest of her hair grows out, worn in a pair of curled twin-tails.
Personality[]
When Amari was young, it was her dream to become a sparkling idol (キラキラのアイドル, kirakira no aidoru), and she was very optimistic about it until her classmates laughed at her dream. Now older, Amari tends to always worry about how her peers view her, and she tries to hide her embarrassing things before anyone can find it. She is easily flustered and is a bit skittish and shy. At one point, Amari had somewhat of a dark phase, resulting in her designing Mario.
Relationships[]
Mario[]
Mario's design comes from Amari's idol notebook.
Laala Manaka[]
Laala was the one who pushed Amari to remember what PriPara was, and she introduced her to the PriPara world.
Etymology[]
Katasumi (香田澄) - Ka (香) means "perfume" or "scent", ta (田) is a common kanji found in many surnames meaning "rice field", and sumi (澄) means "clear". The word "katasumi" (片隅) in Japanese also means "corner".
Amari (あまり) - Though written in Hiragana makes it have no meaning in itself, her name may be based off "Amari" (余り) or "Amarimono" (余り者), meaning someone who is bothered easily, which refers her skittish attitude.
Trivia[]
- Her birthday falls on a leap day.
- She shares her voice actress with Hoshinee from Kiratto Pri☆Chan.
